About this piece
Gillows of Lancaster attributed
A rare set of 16 + 6 aesthetic movement oak upholstered dining or boardroom chairs with turned front legs. The price I have on 1stdibs is for all 22. Six of the 22 dining chairs have brass and ceramic castors and slightly different spacings to the turnings on the front legs, which you can see in image four. The sixteen are a perfectly matched set and do not have any castors.
They are a good quality set, but all require restoration, i.e. the joints are a little loose, so each chair will need to have all the upholstery removed. Then each will need to be dismantled and gently knocked apart. All of the joints to each chair will need to be cleaned, then glued and reassembled and clamped for 24 hours until the glue dries.
The clamps are then removed, each chair is waxed, and all will be ready for the upholstery of your choice. We are also professional antique dealers and restorers with over thirty years' experience and we are happy to carry out the work in house in our workshops. The cost to restore one chair will be £180 and we would need three weeks to complete them all, ready for upholstery.
