A PERGOLA/DECORATIVE GARDEN STRUCTURE
PERGOLA 1 - A monumental mid Victorian hand formed wrought & cast iron Pergola/Decorative Garden Structure, a masterpiece in High Victorian design. The Pergola was built in the same Era as Paxton's Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851, Kew Gardens by Decimus Burton from the mid to later part of the 19th Century & Barnard, Bishop & Barnards Japanese Pavilion designed by Thomas Jeckyll for the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876 smaller scale but on a similar theme.
An incrediable garden structure, a unique & beautiful "Work of Art" which I purchased this in Argentina. Argentina was probably the richest country in the world in the late Victorian period & through into the 20th century due to the rich Silver mines & cattle exports & corn beef, with this wealth they came to Europe & bought some of the very best of what Europe had to offer & why some of the most amazing & most valuable Works of Art from Europe have turned up in Argentina. In Great Britain, France & Germany the industrial revolution was full steam ahead & thumping at an incrediable rate of knots, producing what was the height of Fashion, Design & Quality supplying the world with their wares. Even Argentina's architecture is a melody of European styles from Romanesque, to Gothic, Classical Renaissance, Baroque, early Industrial, the British supplied all the trains & even the train stations mirror images of our own great Victorian train stations & were shipped out complete & erected there, & some of the most incrediable Art Nouveau buildings in the world & why Argentina is known in South America as little Europe.
We think the Pergola is probably French or British there are no markings on it at all, I am still researching it's origin but the date we feel is Circa 1850 to Circa 1870 due to the way it is made & it's style. Research in Argentina has shown that there was no-one in Argentina at that time who could have made this.
It was removed from a large homestead house Argentina, the house was built on a enourmous ranch in the early 1800's, it was pulled down in the 1970's & purchased by an old Rancher whom stored it in one of his barns for until we purchased it & shiped it home.
We can ship it anywhere in the world. It is 14 metres long (approx 46') x 6 metres 30cms high (approx 20'). Circa 1850. £POA.

One can see in the 3rd row of images above we have had it finely bead blasted & it has had two coats of red oxide rust proof paint awaiting the final colour of the new owners choice.
In the two rows of images below it's shown in it's original condition when we purchased it.
An amazing structure that would add beauty, style, class & exquisite taste to any beautiful garden, the centre of attraction for entertaining, party's or family gatherings, & what a good gardener with a good eye for design could grow around & within it would be all one needs to compliment & enrich it's simplicity yet stunning presence.
A Pergola is a garden resting place entwined with flowers....
