MOD 22 - A pair of black leather & Chrome Barcelona chairs with matching Ottomans/stools originally designed by Mies Van Der Rhoe for the German Pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona World Arts Fair in Spain. The Pavilion building itself was sensationally modern for the time. Van Der Rhoe designed the Barcelona Chairs to compliment the pavilion, originally a one off design which were quickly accepted as a design classic & put into production almost immediately due to the enthusiasm of the public. Their elegant modernist form rendered them more as sculptural objects in this revolutionary modern Pavilion. The Spanish Royals visited the Pavilion and sat upon them & likened them to thrones of the 20th Century. These are not modern day light weight reproductions & were probably made by Knoll International or Cassina as they are much closer in gage & quality to the originals than I have seen before, possibly 20 to 30 years old. £1095 each £2000 the pair. £SOLD.
