GODWIN EX - 35
A rare Anglo-Japanese walnut & lacquer side cabinet, possibly designed by E.W. Godwin, with Japanese fret work back inset with Japanese laquer panels, with mirror to the centre & stepped shelve arrangement with upcurved details with conforming Japanese laquer panels to the doors which also have Japanese style leather embossed panels & further Japanese laquer panels in red to the drawers & an arrangement of open shelves below with Anglo-Japanese supports & on splayed legs. GODWIN EX - 36
Bruce Talbert (attributed), probably for Gillows, an impressive Aesthetic Movement ebonised cabinet for semi-fixing, with a gentle play of upper open shelves with turned uprights & turned legs & decorative brass beadings, gilt highlights, amboyna inlay to the central drawer & doors with painted panels of maidens amidst classical swags in the Greek style.
T he handles & hinges are identical to those used on many pieces designed by Talbert & made by Gillows.

GODWIN EX - 37
A Rosewood Exhibition quality sideboard. Designed by George Faulkner Armitage.
Made by Collinson & Lock. Armitage also had his own furniture making Co.
Circa 1880's.

Armitage was comissioned by The Fine Art Society to decorate & design furniture for their showrooms in C1887.
His father William was a cotton manufacturer in Manchester from Altrincham. Armitage became a prolific architect & furniture designer famous in his day. He lived & ran his business from Stamford House a former ale house. He designed & furnished wealthy properties in London. He also became a magistrate, & was mayor of Altrincham during the whole of the 1914-18 War he died in 1937.

GODWIN EX - 39
A rare and early Anglo- Japanese ebonised tall chest of drawers, circa 1875, with gilt painted swallow, stylised bamboo and plant forms with rosettes, with a later black marble top, the lower drawer a double. The painted rosettes are in the manner of Edward William Godwin or possibly W.E. Nesfield

GODWIN EX - 40
Dr Christopher Dresser (attributed), an ebonised music cabinet, with six painted panels attributed to Moyr Smith, the upper pair in the shape of crosses with painted Japanese floral details, the central pair depicting a violinist and a harpist sitting on a Greek stylised chair, the lower pair square shaped with applied circular cross and Japanese flower, the doors with incised geometric latch style handles enclosing ten drop-front drawers, compartments to the base. See Lyons, Harry ‘Christopher Dresser: The Peoples Designer 1834-1904’, p. 144, plate 260.
Possibly made by Chubb.

Lamb of Manchester., an ebonised and coromandel side cabinet, possibly designed by W. J. Estall, with a fret and mistletoe gallery, a shelf, a bevelled mirror, a velvet lined glazed cupboard and further galleried shelves, on turned supports.

Lambs of Manchester., a rare set of 4 Walnut Aesthetic Movement dining chairs with circular carved details & ebonised turned & incised details, a cup handle to the back of the head rest on turned front legs with brass & ceramic castors & a wonderful kick out back leg united by a H stretcher.

GODWIN EX - 42
Lamb of Manchester., an Aesthetic Movement ebonised and coromandel side cabinet, with a bevelled mirrored and shelved back, a glazed base with a spindle galleried undershelf, stamped to top edge of door. Possibly designed by W. J. Estall. Lambs were one of the very best cabinet makers of the period: a pure Art Furniture company whose furniture designs were at the forefront in England in the late 1800s

The upper shelf surmounted by a brass gallery, black leather writing area with Gilt tooling to edge. 2 drawers with stylised brass handles, on turned & Gilt legs with 'D' end stretcher & leather foot rest to centre, shaped side supports with carved rosettes & small turned gallery on bun feet with inset brass castors.
Stamped Gillows inside the drawer & Numbered 806.
Circa 1875.

Ebonised & Gilded Aesthetic Movement sideboard with carved putti panels.
Attributed to Bruce Talbert 1838 to 1881.
An ebonised side cabinet, with bevelled mirrors, gilt lines, carved & gilt walnut panels & floral fabric, the Neo-Classical Adam style panels carved with putti playing lute & triangle. See Sotheby’s with Paul Reeves ‘The Best of British Design from the 19th and 20th Centuries: The Selling Exhibition’, PR41 for a similar carved panel made by Gillows of Lancaster, Gillows were in buisness from C1729 to C1900 One of the most important furniture making companies of the time.
Numbered 1150.

GODWIN EX - 45
A Walnut Aesthetic Movement sideboard in the manner of E W Godwin. Many of the features of this sideboard relate to Godwin's famous fireplace/Butterfly cabinet which was painted by J McNeil Whistler & exhibited at Paris Exhibition in 1878.
Made by Gregory & Co. Regent Street. London stamped mark to a door, no. 1479,.

GODWIN EX - 46
Bruce Talbert (attributed), an ebonised single drawer cabinet, with upper gallery and ivory inlays to the upper doors of men amongst floral details in Mannerist style within an oval, flanked with squirrels to each corner. the semi-circular side supports with trefoil cut-outs to the backs and turned supports to the fronts, with two lower shelves and a pierced gallery, on turned feet.

GODWIN EX - 51
A superb Ebonised Aesthetic corner cabinet with wonderful carved floral detail to the top & to the doors flanked by superb quality stylised hinges & handle, kick out front legs, the influence of Godwin is seen a number of times on this piece, the curly tops & kick out front legs the carved florets, incised detail & even the metalwork all have the essence of his work. The colour looks more like Walnut in these pictures for some bazaar reason but it is actually very black (ebonised).

AEdward William Godwin (attributed) for Collinson & Lock, a fine set of hanging oak wall shelves, 1870s, with turned supports, See Soros, Susan Weber ‘The Secular Furniture of E.W. Godwin’, This wall shelf has almost the identical turnings to a drawing room cabinet made by Collinson & Lock, p.209, illus. 333 and also the Florence cabinet, p. 185, illus. 306. It also has the identical lower arched section to a wall shelf in the Collinson & Lock catalogue of 1871 and the same turning on chairs also from that catalogue

GODWIN EX - 55
Edward William Godwin (attributed), an oak hanging bookcase, with portrait medallion roundels in moulded vulcanite. This cabinet has some design features associated with Godwin’s work. The tops are quite similar to the bookcases he designed for Dromore Castle, see Soros, Susan Weber ‘The Secular Furniture of E.W. Godwin’, p. 191, illus. 311.111 and a design for a buffet, p. 222, illus. 356 and in the left-hand corner of a line drawing for parlour furniture, p. 230, illus. 374.1. The elongated bottoms are a similar detail to hanging cabinets he also designed
