D&A 4 - A tremendous quality Gothic Revival oak breakfront bookcase of pure architectural design attributed to Bruce Talbert & probably made by Garnetts of Warrington or Gillows of Lancaster. The upper pediment with scroll details flanked by turned knops with dentil moulding below typical of Talbert's work & similar to the 'Pet sideboard' he designed for Gillows. The 3 upper arched central details with swirling turned uprights another Talbert detail & the most fantastic & pure brass Gothic Revival decorative grills to the glazed upper doors with 4 conforming arched details below all with fluted uprights that have very precise carved florets & further small florets to the sides of the doors & scribed tramline details throughout. The open bookcase shelves below flanked with further open adjustable shelves & cantered corners with a large sunflower floret to the top with tramline detail above & below the sunflower & a further carved scroll above with another larger floret adjacent to it on the top of the shaped upper side support & 2 semi-circular shelves below on both sides & particular stylised cut-outs with spiral turned details another typical Talbert devise used extensively on his chairs produced by Gillows & a further carved flower head with scroll details & a 'square' carved just above. The lower section with carved upright flowers on stems to each face on all the uprights & a long oblong open central shelf with 2 cupboard doors below each door having 2 different types of carved florets, 5 of one style running in the form of a cross & 4 of another style in a North,East,West & a South position, each floret carved into it's own octagonal box with 4 diamond details separating them all. The doors flanked by 2 adjustable shelves those flanked again with canted corners to the sides both with a central single tri-angular shelf & both with 8 small fielded panels to the back on a plinth base.
