Puritan Values was the largest supplier to Liberty & Co of original Art Furniture & smaller decorative items from the Arts & Crafts Movement, Gothic Revival & British Art Nouveau over a 10 year period & also supplying the better items for their annual selling exhibitions & the major percentage to over 6 seperate exhibitions & alas what Liberty & Co became famous for 'The Arts & Crafts Movement' that department has now sadly been closed

SOLD L&Co 1 - A rare & fantastic Oak Arts & Crafts armchair attributed to E.Punnet & made by William Birch with wonderful Mother of Pearl & Ebony stylised floral inlay . A tremendous design that is well balanced & encompasses the true Glasgow Style. An identicle version is illustrated in 'The Birch Design Ledger, illustration number & there is another example in the collection at The Glasgow School of Art (GSA). 1901. £SOLD.

SOLD L&Co 5 - An extremely rare Liberty & Co Arts & Crafts oak sideboard designed by Leonard Wyburd. A hand formed copper motto to the top which reads :- 'READ NOT TO BELIEVE & TAKE FOR GRANTED BUT TO WEIGH & CONSIDER'. The most fantastic metalwork to the lower left hand door & stylised leaded glass to the upper right hand door with pierced arches to the upper centre section, an array of shelves for books or display with the lowest shelf breaking forward. The sideboard has wonderful proportions & is a well balanced pure Arts & Crafts piece. Height 75", Width 72", Depth at the base 14", Depth at the top shelf 10". £SOLD.

SOLD L&Co 8 - Probably the rarest & best Liberty & Co Bureau bookcase in the world. The whole piece is stupendous quality & made from 1/4 sawn on with fantastic figuring. The metalwork is hand hammered copper of the highest quality.

The motto is by Alexander Pope & reads :-

Words are like leaves & where they most abound,

Much fruit of sense beneath is rarely found.

It measures Height 5' 7", Width 44" & Depth 14". It has it's original ivorene label in the drawer not that it needs it but it's nice. This needs no further introduction. Circa 1890. Priced at £SOLD.

SOLD L&Co 9 - A top quality 1\4 sawn oak Arts & Crafts sideboard designed by Leonard Wyburd for Liberty & Co of wonderful proportion's, with protruding cornice that has a grove to the top shelf perfect for displaying plates stylised carved motto below that reads :- 'LET GOOD DIGESTION WAIT ON APPETITE', this verse is from the Shakespear play Macbeth. Angled sides & panelled back, work area with drawer below & cupboard below that with the most fantastic hand forged iron handle's & hinges that I have seen on a L&Co piece. Circa 1890. SOLD L&Co 12 - An extremely rare Liberty & Co Arts & Crafts armchair with drop in rush seat designed by Leonard Wyburd. Although in essence it is more like the Ethelbert it may well be a one off or commissioned piece because it has arms the same as the Athelstan chair a variation I've never seen before in 18 years. There is an image of the 2 chairs together on page 114 of 'Liberty Design' by Barbara Morris in an advert taken from the Yuletide Catalogue of 1899. £SOLD.

SOLD L&Co 45 - An elegant well designed Arts & Crafts rush-seated settle attributed to William Birch of High Wickham & probably retailed by Liberty & Co, angled sides that have wonderful stylised spindles also to the back & legs all with incised details, central crossing stretcher, well designed & good quality. The settle has been dismantled & re-glued, it has been cleaned & re-polished & re-rushed. The settle is light weight yet very strong due to it's design which has a slight Anglo Japanse-Moorish style to it, following lines which EW Godwin adhered to in this style of furniture.
